Merry merry merry christmas !

It’s that time of the year again! Nights are bright of lights, streets are crowded with smiles and days are fulfilled with family drama! Aren’t those the best? You got the whole family wondering how come you still don’t have a job while your cousin got 2 PHDs and won a Nobel prize and if you have a job how come you’re not engaged when your sister is having her 4th child?

I miss those. I never thought I would, but I do. It’s been 4 years since I spent christmas with my whole family. Mind you, I’m not playing the victim here, I’ve been spending them with my 2 big sisters, and trust me, I’ve had my quota of drama; but I do miss my mum questioning all my life decisions, and my 4 sisters telling me how pretty I would look if I tried to look like a girl.

Well, enough with the nostalgic mood.

Christmas is not only about spending time with family, it’s not only about eating like a pig and regret it for the next 9 months, it’s also about valuing what we have and who we have in our lives. It’s about realizing that no matter how irritating our families can be, we love them unconditionally, and no matter how disappointing and selfish we can be sometimes, they love us beyond words.

Christmas is also about being grateful for the friends that make our lives bearable and put up with our drama on a daily basis. Thank you to all my friends for putting up with my unnecessarily loud laugh and my crazy stories.

The end of he year is the one time we all agree to reflect on what we have achieved and what we have done. But it should also be the time we think about how happy we were and how happy we made people around us. Was I kind enough? Was I listening? Was I present?

And if we weren’t happy, let’s try and find out why and remediate the situation. If we were crappy friends, let’s apologize and do better.

I wish you all to be happy with yourselves and proud. Proud to be standing, proud to keep moving. You don’t need to fly a rocket or cure a disease to be proud of yourself. You can be proud because you got out of bed and handled responsibilities. You can be proud for not procrastinating and getting some work done. There are millions reasons why you should be proud of yourself, find them and give yourself some credits.

I wish you to keep growing, I wish you to keep moving towards your goals. No matter how hard it gets, trust that you have it in you to make it happen.

I wish you to be happy with who you are. You are enough. If you’re not happy with yourself, others won’t be. It starts with you (Cliché, I know, but true).

Let’s all use all the love that’s spreading to do something good for one another, to help others, in any way we can.

More importantly, laugh, eat and drink as much as you can. There’s nothing good company, good food and a glass of Chardonnay can’t solve.

Merry christmas and Happy new year !!!
